In Russia, the list of family holidays is impressive: both national and international days of honoring relatives are celebrated — spouses, children, parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters. Family is a pillar and an important part of life for every person, and harmonious family relationships form the values necessary for a successful life in society, teach love and provide support. In addition, the environment in which a child grows up plays an important role in shaping his identity and manner of self-expression. Due to the importance of this institution, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared last year the Year of the Family in the country. For more information about which important family holidays Russians will celebrate and what to write to their loved ones— see the Izvestia article.

Daughter's Day 2025 (Daughters' Day): what is the date in Russia, what kind of holiday

Daughter's Day in Russia is traditionally celebrated on April 25. The holiday is not official, but it has become popular among many families who want to express their love and appreciation for their daughters. The date may vary from country to country, for example, in some Western countries it is celebrated on January 12, and in the United States on September 25.

The exact origin of the Daughter's Day is unknown. According to one version, the Indian greeting card brand wanted to draw attention to gender inequality in the country in this way. This is how the first themed postcards for girls were printed with wishes to dream and calls to achieve their goals.

Another version says that the history of the holiday began in the USA. Daughter's Day was established in order to destroy the popular stereotype that prevailed in the country until the 1960s, that a woman's place was only at home. And on April 22, 1993, the United States celebrated a holiday called "Bring your daughter to Work." At the same time, special lectures for girls were held at schools the day before, where they talked about various features of professions. Since 2003, boys have also taken part in the campaign, and now the day is called "Daughters and Sons Labor Day." The holiday is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of April. Parents take their children to the office, show them their workplace, and also introduce them to the specifics of their profession. Millions of Americans take part in the campaign.

In Russia, Daughter's Day is not widely celebrated, as a rule, in the family circle. On the holiday, parents try to please their daughters with warm congratulations and give gifts regardless of age. However, Daughter's Day is celebrated in different ways: someone chooses to remember family stories and talk about traditions, and someone chooses to go to nature and have a tea party.

Family, Love and Fidelity Day 2025: on what date did the holiday and events appear

In Russia, the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity will be celebrated on July 8, 2025. The date is associated with Saints Peter and Fevronia of Murom, patrons of family and marriage in Orthodoxy. It was in Murom in 2006 that it was first proposed to establish a family holiday on Saints' Day. The date acquired its official status only in 2022. The unofficial symbol of the holiday is the chamomile, a wildflower that embodies sincerity, love and purity.

The love story of Peter and Fevronia is told in an old Russian story of the same name from the 16th century, while the events described in the work took place 300 years before that. A number of researchers believe that the names in the legend include Prince David Yurievich, who ruled just at the beginning of the 13th century and took the name of Peter in monasticism, and his wife, information about whom has not been preserved. Prince Peter of Murom is not mentioned in other chronicle sources.

According to legend, Peter of Murom was struck by a terrible disease, leprosy. The whole body was covered with scabs. Neither the medicines nor the efforts of the doctors helped the prince. One day, Peter had a dream that the daughter of a simple beekeeper, Fevronia, from the village of Laskovo, would help him get rid of the disease. The girl, who knew medicinal herbs, cured the prince in exchange for a promise: Peter was to marry her as soon as he recovered. Soon the disease receded, but Peter changed his mind about marrying a simple peasant woman and left Fevronia. However, on the way, the disease reappeared. Then the prince returned to the healer, asked for forgiveness, and after being cured again, he married her. After a long family life, and being already in advanced years, they took vows and retired to their respective monasteries.

The main events on the occasion of the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity are held in the city of Murom. On this date, many families from different regions of Russia are awarded the medal "For Love and Loyalty". This award has no state status and does not give its holders benefits, however, the award ceremony has become a real tradition for married couples. To receive the badge of distinction, the spouses must have been legally married for at least 25 years and become famous among their fellow citizens for the strength of family values based on love and loyalty. Peter and Fevronia of Murom are depicted on one side of the medal, and a daisy on the other.

More than 180 events are planned in Moscow for the Day of Family, Love and Fidelity on July 8. Residents of the capital will be able to attend fairs, concert and creative programs, music festivals, sports games and lectures.

Father's Day 2025: what date is in Russia, what to give and what to wish for Dad

Father's Day is a relatively new holiday in Russia, which received official status only on October 4, 2021, along with the corresponding decree of Vladimir Putin.

The history of the holiday dates back to 1909 in the American city of Spokane, Washington. At a church service on Mother's Day, a local resident of Sonora, Louise Dodd, wondered why there was no such holiday for fathers. The girl's mother died after giving birth to her sixth child. The children were raised by their father, William Jackson Smart, a Civil War veteran. He became a loving and caring parent to his children. The girl created a petition in which she explained how important the father's role in the family is. The local authorities supported the initiative. US President Calvin Coolidge said that such a holiday can strengthen the bond between fathers and children.

In 1966, Father's Day became a national holiday in America, where it is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. Gradually, Father's Day spread all over the world. Now the holiday is celebrated in more than 30 countries.

The first Father's Day in Russia took place on October 4, 2014, when the Papa Fest festival was held in Moscow. Since then, the holiday has been held annually in many cities of the country: Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad and Kazan. In addition, quests and festivities are organized on October 4.

Mother's Day 2025: what is the date in Russia, what is the importance of the holiday, what to give mom

Mother's Day is an international holiday celebrated in more than 20 countries around the world. In Russia, Mother's Day takes place on the last Sunday of November. In 2025, the holiday falls on November 30th.

The cult of the mother is known among the earliest tribes, and it was widely popular among the ancient Greeks. Celebrations and various mysteries were held in honor of Rhea, the ancestress of the gods. In Britain, since the 17th and 19th centuries, the fourth Sunday of Great Lent has been considered a "mother's Sunday." It was on this day that all the mothers of the country were congratulated. In the United States, Julia Ward Howe proposed celebrating the holiday for the first time in 1872. Unfortunately, then her idea did not find a response from the authorities. But the initiative taken by Anna Jarvis in 1907 was supported. The first celebration was held in Virginia in 1910. Four years later, by decree of U.S. President Woodrow Wilson, Mother's Day spread throughout the country.

In Russia, the first attempt to establish such a holiday took place in 1915. The holiday fell on December 1, but it was not fixed in the national calendar. Later, in the USSR, teacher Elmira Huseynova took the initiative to establish Mother's Day. On October 30, 1988, she organized an event dedicated to the important role of the mother in the life of a child in one of the Baku schools. In 1990, the idea of the holiday was supported by Alevtina Aparina, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, a member of the Committee on Women, Family and Youth Affairs. However, the decree on the establishment of the holiday was signed by the President only in 1998.

Despite the fact that Mother's Day in Russia is considered a fairly young holiday, it already has its own traditions. The symbol of the celebration is a forget-me-not. The All-Russian social action "Mom, I love you!" is also timed to coincide with this day.

Concerts, contests, promotions and exhibitions are held all over the country. Schools and kindergartens prepare especially diligently for Mother's Day. Children tell poems about their mothers, draw their portraits and make gifts with their own hands. The institutions organize small productions and exhibitions with photographs of employees and their parents.
