For Russia, Mother's Day is a fairly young holiday. It was first celebrated in a Baku school in 1988, and by 1993 it spread to Bashkortostan, Yakutia and the Chelyabinsk region.

The proposal to create Mother's Day was put forward in 1997 by the State Duma Committee on Women, Family and Youth. Russian President Boris Yeltsin signed the law on the establishment of the holiday on January 30, 1998. Mother's Day has no fixed date, it is always celebrated on the last Sunday of November. There is no additional day off.

In almost all countries of the world there is an analog of this holiday, so it is difficult to determine the exact date of its origin. Back in Ancient Greece, a holiday was held in honor of Persephone, the goddess of fertility, and rituals were held for the Great Mother of the gods, Cybele. In England in the Middle Ages there was Mothering Sunday, which by now has been transformed into Mother's Day.

The roots of the modern holiday go back to the United States, where several people fought for its creation. One of them was Julia Ward Howe, who in 1872 proposed to create an international women's community to fight for peace. And even before her, a woman named Anne Jarvis from West Virginia organized Mother's Friendship Day. Subsequently, her daughter Anne secured the proclamation of the first national Mother's Day. This happened in 1914.

Traditionally, concerts with songs, dances and performances are organized.
