Rox Motor is a small but ambitious startup — not like that. I took it right off the bat. More precisely, to Inner Mongolia, where many automakers are testing their cars with frost. The combination of moderate amounts of snow, low humidity and consistently sub-zero temperatures makes these places an ideal testing ground.

If you take Land Rover as an example to follow, then you should think like a Land Rover. If you named the car Adamas, which in ancient Greek means "indestructible," then provide evidence of this indestructibility.

Therefore, when the road with colorful markings was replaced by a winter truck, journalists from Russia, Mongolia and Armenia were put behind the wheel.

Inner Mongolia is an amazing place. The roads here are not sprinkled with anything, but simply cleaned to an icy shine. Local drivers are used to it — we haven't seen a single accident in all this time. Moreover, some manage to get around on bicycles. To brighten up their stay in this draughty icy steppe, local authorities are installing funny snowmen in scarves and hats along the roads, fashioned or stamped from a material that is not in short supply here. Just imagine that the improvement department of the city of Hulun-Buir reported on the establishment of such and such a number of standard small snowmen, such and such a number of large snowmen, reliefs with Mongolian horses and sculptures from the history of China with heroic partisans.

Far from the city, a Snow and Ice Festival is taking place in the middle of an icy plain with sculptures, stages and, most importantly for us, a whole range of extreme trails, including an "Ice Pot", actually an ice-filled pit. This is the end point of an extreme journey, but first to a snowy desert.

Off-road luxury

The new Adamas bizarrely combines elements of "sweet life" and extreme adventures.

The letters and nameplate are circled in gold, and the interior is decorated with natural striped veneer of some exotic wood. If the Rox 01 sported unpainted plastic armor, then the same Adamas elements are painted either in body color or gloss black.

The air suspension, a distinctive feature of the new Rox version, allows you to move confidently along deep snow tracks. The ground clearance of the 01 version is 210 mm, the Adamas can both squat up to 175 mm, making it easier for passengers to board, and rise up to 272 mm, which is more important off—road. Naturally, the angles of entry and exit have increased.

From an air suspension with electrically controlled shock absorbers, you expect a "magic carpet flight", but here it is unexpectedly dense and assembled. Marks the joints on the asphalt, prevents the body from swinging. Off-road, as the ground clearance increases, it becomes denser, but it holds up well. At some point, the instructors suggested drifting just in the middle of the field. There were impressive rocks under the snow cover. The suspension passed the test, but not the two tires.

In China, by the way, there is a version of the Rox Adamas without a spare tire, which is positioned as a city car. Moreover, Rox Motor was not too lazy and even made another stamp for the swing door of such a car. So, sending her on an off-road trip was not a good idea. Disassembling a spare tire with a case and a built—in camera in the cold is still a pleasure, but this is a chance to leave on your own.

So I drove back in a replacement Rox 01 and was once again convinced of the high smoothness of the car on conventional springs. The Russian representative office claims that it is of a closed type and filled with nitrogen instead of air, which, in theory, increases its durability. The owner of a Rox Adamas, like the owner of a Range Rover, is unlikely to travel off-road often, and it is more important to him that the air suspension improves comfort rather than off-road capabilities.

Rox Motor, a manufacturer of robot vacuum cleaners, apparently believes that reliability and endurance are more important for image. Representatives of the company let slip that they are preparing an extreme off-road novelty, which, by the way, they plan to assemble together with Rox at the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad.

We are testing the car on the edge, storming hill after hill. While a flock of "Heliks" and "Maybakhs" rides aside according to their program. The Tank 300 moving ahead on large off-road wheels did not reach the top, leaving an ugly "snot" on the slope. The Adamasi, though not without difficulty, reach the top, and when it turned out that it was better to go not in the snow, but in the sand mode, things went better.

To be honest, I thought that the desperate organizers would let the journalists ride on the "Ice Pot", but they put a local racer behind the wheel, who drove the passengers no less desperately and scared them a lot. But they were allowed to travel on their own along a difficult, overextended route. In the special drift mode, the heavy and long SUV slides obediently like a passenger car. We just need to keep in mind that with a speed boost, this mode is imperceptibly disabled.

What did the extreme cold test show?

Still, you can't find fault with the settings of the driving electronics, and the frost does not interfere with it. And the cars themselves, despite the fact that they have been tortured by more than one group of journalists, work without "glitches" and breakdowns. Although they carry marks on the engine protection from extreme adventures.

The total output of electric motors is 476 hp and 740 Nm. The car accelerates from zero to "hundred" in 5.5 seconds, the maximum speed is limited to 190 km/ h.

The battery does not scare with a quick discharge, fuel consumption at such a load and temperature is quite moderate — the onboard computer shows 15-16.5 liters per "hundred". The hybrid power plant of the Adamas has been made more efficient — the internal combustion engine spends one liter to generate 3.5 kW of electricity. The claimed total range increased to 1,226 km compared to the Rox 01. However, taking into account the indications of the flight computer, frost and drift significantly reduce range. It should be borne in mind that the test included cars in the Chinese specification with a lower—capacity battery (44.5 kWh) and, as a result, a smaller range of 1,171 km. Central Asian versions with a 56-kilowatt-hour battery will be supplied to Russia. For some reason, there is no tow bar in the list of options for such versions, but there is an electrically heated windshield.

Nevertheless, the frost has thrown up surprises — due to the aerodynamic features, the tailgate is actively frozen with ice. The car also grows a thick layer of ice from below — the hybrid power plant and air suspension generate a lot of heat. Frost covers the side windows, and the ceiling ducts cannot be directed directly at the glass.

Seating options and price

In general, Rox Adamas is perceived not as a new model, but as an effort to improve the old one. For example, heavy doors with powerful seals were equipped with door closers. There are minimal changes in the interior, but it has become richer. The most noticeable change is the seat control keys on the second row — they have moved from under the covers on the armrest to its side. In general, the second row is the main difference between the three Rox versions. There may be separate chairs simpler or richer. Moreover, those that are simpler are installed with a gap sufficient for passage to the third row. The richer ones slowly move forward, allowing them to enter the gallery. There is also an option with a solid triple sofa in the second row. The third row can be designed for either two or three people.

The price tag on Adamas is the most "golden" — more than 10 million rubles. However, the Rox 01 cost from 9 million at the start, and now it has fallen to 8.3 million. In the incomplete year 2025 — official sales started in February — more than 500 "zero-firsts" were sold. The result is not bad, considering that this is a car from a little-known and not yet very significant brand. The car itself is at least interesting, but its success mainly depends on the efforts of the Russian distributor.
