How to find out your credit history. Izvestia's instructions
A credit history (CI) is an important indicator of a borrower's integrity. Banks may refuse to issue funds to a person with a bad credit history or offer less favorable terms. Therefore, it is useful to check your credit history before contacting a financial institution. Read about how to do this in the Izvestia article.
What is a credit history?
A credit history is a comprehensive report that reflects a borrower's relationship with financial institutions. It contains comprehensive information about all loans received, their terms of service, and compliance with the payment schedule.
The credit history records:
- amounts and terms of loans received;
- timely repayment of debts;
- the presence of overdue payments;
- application of penalties;
- loan refusals;
- data on debt restructuring, bankruptcy, etc.
Financial organizations use this information to assess the reliability of a potential borrower. Based on the credit history, banks determine the terms of lending, including the amount of the interest rate and the limit of borrowed funds. The level of CI is determined by compliance with obligations to creditors. A positive characteristic is formed in the absence of delays and timely fulfillment of all contractual conditions.
What spoils your credit history:
- regular payment delays;
- the presence of unfulfilled obligations;
- judicial decisions on debt collection;
- unpaid administrative fines;
- delays in alimony payments, utility bills.
Even if a person has never applied for a loan from a bank, his credit history may be ruined. For example, if he has fines for traffic violations, debts to the mobile operator, etc.
Why check your credit history
Regular monitoring of the credit history allows you to control the accuracy of the information reflected in it and timely identify possible errors or fraud. It also allows you to better prepare for communication with banks, for example, before applying for a mortgage.
Where is the credit history stored?
Information about the financial activities of borrowers is accumulated in specialized organizations — credit bureaus (BCI). There are several such institutions in the Russian Federation. To find out exactly where the credit history is stored, you need to contact the Central Catalog of Credit Histories (CCCI). This database, created by the Bank of Russia, contains information on the distribution of credit histories across various bureaus.
The storage period of the credit history in the BKI is 7 years from the date of the last update of the information. After this period, the data is archived, but remains available upon request.
