- Psychologists have named the consequences of sex on the first date for men and women
Hasty intimacy at first meetings can lead to a rapid fading of the emotional spark and the curtailment of relationships that have not yet had time to form. All the details are in the Izvestia article.
The risks of early intimacy
Clinical psychologist and sexologist Ekaterina Makarova notes that on the first date, partners often play roles, trying to show themselves at their best. According to her, succumbing to the impulse to start having sex right away, without forming common values and plans, you can face a rapid depletion of the spark. This can lead to the curtailment of relationships that have not yet begun.
At the same time, the psychologist emphasizes that sex at the first meeting is not an absolute contraindication for the future. According to her, many couples have developed such relationships into long-term alliances. However, it is important not to turn off sanity and critical perception, gradually learning the true values of a person through communication.
Emotional intimacy and passion
Dmitry Yagudin, Doctor of Psychology, founder and head of the D.R. Yagudin International Neurouniversity, shares the concepts of sexual chemistry and deep emotional attraction. Passion is based on a hormonal surge that lasts from one to eight months. If emotional intimacy and the same vision of the world have not been formed during this time, after a decrease in hormone levels, partners will become uninterested in each other.
"Deep emotional attraction can arise only when we empathically felt our partner, felt his emotions," Yagudin explained.
The problem of the "traveling companion syndrome"
At the same time, Makarova warns against the "travel companion syndrome", when people pour out their whole souls to each other in one meeting. Excessive frankness on the first date may cause a desire not to see the person anymore, as the psyche perceives such an outsider's awareness as unsafe. So, the psychologist recommends limiting the first meeting to two or three hours.
"No one has anything to do for more than two or two and a half hours on a first date. Neither men nor women," advised Makarova.
Motivation and self-assessment
Sex on the first date can sometimes be a manifestation of low self-esteem, especially if a woman is afraid of "missing a chance" or is trying to please a high-status partner. Makarova advises paying attention to "red flags" — signs that a partner does not plan to invest in a relationship emotionally or financially, despite the presence of intimacy.
It's not uncommon for men to lose interest in continuing communication if intimacy happened too quickly. Yagudin emphasizes that in a state of passion, a person can be deceived, mistaking a hormonal surge for love. He recommends waiting for a few meetings to form an emotional charge and understand whether a partner is suitable for a serious relationship.
