In 13 Russian regions, the average salary already exceeds 100,000 rubles. However, for the rest of the regions, this milestone remains unattainable. In this context, it is important how quickly other regions will be able to catch up with the leaders and what trends will determine their development in the coming years.

Leading regions with salaries above 100 thousand rubles

Alexey Nezhivoy, head of the operational headquarters of the Independent Trade Union Novy Trud, told Izvestia that among the leaders in terms of average wages in Russia were regions such as Chukotka with an index of 198.2 thousand rubles, Kamchatka with 175.3 thousand rubles and Moscow with 165.7 thousand rubles.

In addition, high salaries were recorded in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District (162.2 thousand rubles), the Magadan Region (158.1 thousand rubles) and the Nenets Autonomous District (149.1 thousand rubles). The top ten also includes Sakhalin (142.7 thousand rubles), Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug (136.9 thousand rubles), Yakutia (131.6 thousand rubles), St. Petersburg (115.4 thousand rubles), Murmansk Region (115.1 thousand rubles), Moscow Region (113.4 thousand rubles) and the Trans-Baikal Territory (101.5 thousand rubles).

However, it is worth noting that such data does not always mean a high standard of living, as they may be associated with a large proportion of shift work, specific working conditions and high demand for labor in such territories.

What factors contribute to wage growth?

According to the expert, the growth of salaries in Russia is associated with several main reasons.

— The key of them is a strategic focus on the development of individual regions, supervised at the highest level, which forces local authorities and businesses to increase the incomes of the population in order to preserve human resources, — said Nezhivoy.

However, the level of wages, for example, in 100 thousand rubles, is a relative indicator, since its real value is determined by purchasing power, which directly depends on the dynamics of prices for goods and services, the Izvestia interlocutor explained.

— Even if other regions take this milestone, it will not mean income equalization across the country, because the leading territories will move to the next level - 200 thousand rubles, — said Nezhivoy.

According to him, the current economic reality points to serious imbalances.

— Consumer demand is declining, which indicates that inflation is growing faster than wages. Low labor productivity remains an acute problem, and the replacement of scarce personnel with migrant labor is not perceived as a sustainable solution. The process of robotization is still gaining momentum and has not yet had a large—scale impact on the market," the expert added.

The platform economy and the dependence of salaries on it

The rapid development of the platform economy plays a paradoxical role in the economy today, said Nezhivoy. On the one hand, it has reduced the cost and expanded access to a variety of services, becoming an important driver of gross domestic product (GDP) growth. On the other hand, this has led to a shift of labor resources into the gig economy, including due to more attractive and flexible conditions.

— Today we are in a situation that requires fine-tuning and the creation of an integrated regulatory system. It should take into account both the need to maintain human resources in traditional industries and combat inflation, as well as the integration of a highly efficient but socially less predictable platform sector into the country's economy," concluded Nezhivoy.
