Zaporozhye cranks in a small town in the midst of hostilities are constructing a time machine and preparing to meet with aliens in the "Ferryman". The children of Alexey Balabanov and Sergey Selyanov reflect on the film "Brother" and its role in the fate of the country. Conformist ravers race through the Moroccan desert in a Sirate, and woe betide anyone who dares to stand too close to the speakers of their giant speakers. "Daddy's Daughters" gathers the entire star cast over the years of its existence. "Major in Dubai" competes with "Bond" and "Mission: impossible." Izvestia has selected the main novelties of the Russian film distribution this weekend.

Ferryman, 16+

Directed by Fyodor Popov. Starring: Anna Ukolova, Artyom Alekseev, Natalia Berger, Eduard Radzyukevich, Natalia Medvedeva, Svetlana Permyakova.

An unusual attempt to make a Russian version of Emir Kusturica's film "Life as a Miracle". The place of action is the Zaporozhye countryside, the time is 2022, the characters are oddballs of all stripes, both local and visiting. For example, the ferryman Vasya, despite his brutal image, is a former puppet theater actor who quietly constructs a time machine from his ferry. And he needs it not to solve geopolitical problems, as the Russian officer is trying to hint to him, but to go straight to Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol and prevent the destruction of the second volume of Dead Souls. Maybe then, of course, the course of history will change for the better, it's hard to say, but Vasya takes a car that looks like a moonshine distiller, just like the invention of Gaidai's Shura, very seriously.

There will also be a visiting American journalist who voluntarily decided to stay in the village, where Russian troops are about to enter. And an elderly local resident who has been preparing for a meeting with aliens for a long time. And the piglet, which is listed in the Guinness Book of Records for the speed of running towards the house. By mixing the aesthetics of Kusturica and Nikolai Dostal, with whom Popov worked a lot as a producer, the authors were able to create a fairy tale space that envelops the epicenter of historical events like a cloud. For more information, see the Izvestia review.

"Brother forever", 18+

The directors are Grigory Selyanov and Anna Selyanova.

The son of the producer of Sergey Selyanov's "Brother" Grigory Selyanov, together with his wife Anna, made a film about the phenomenon of Alexey Balabanov's most famous work. Or rather, not even about the phenomenon itself, but about the generation that grew up on it. About myself, about Balabanov's children, as well as about the millions of other children who in the 90s looked at Danila Bagrov and dreamed that they too would have such an advocate, such a Brother. True, Olga Bodrova, Sergei's daughter, is not in the film, but it's still a declaration of love. Children to their fathers, whom they may not really understand and do not want to analyze too much, but they are still trying to learn as much as possible about them.

There are many memoirs of Sergei Selyanov, Balabanov's widow Nadezhda Vasilyeva, and there is an interview with Nikita Mikhalkov, who, by the way, played diametrically opposed roles in two Balabanov films. It is clear that a lot has been published recently about Balabanov and his work, including a film by Lyubov Arkus and a fundamental and already multi-volume work by Andrei Zakhariev about Balabanov and his paintings. Read the interview with the film's directors here.

Sirat, 18+

Directed by Oliver Laschet. Starring: Sergi Lopez, Bruno Nunez, Richard Bellamy, Stefania Gadda.

The contestant of this year's Cannes Film Festival program, Sirat, won the jury Prize, but also split the critics' community in half. Some praise it, while others, on the contrary, consider it highly overrated, and there are definitely no fewer cool reviews than enthusiastic ones. This is already an excuse to go to the cinema, because today there are not many films that cause at least some kind of reaction from the viewer. At home, "Sirat" definitely won't "work."

This is an audiovisual spectacle with a lot of general plans, while being quite dramaturgically justified. In addition, the "Sirata" sound sequence is mostly a deafening rave that sets both the rhythm and the mood. The opening scene is a grandiose rave festival somewhere in the Moroccan desert, and for quite a long time the viewer is immersed in the same trance experienced by the characters, authentic freaks from different countries, coming off to their favorite music next to giant speakers. And in the midst of this event, it's not so easy to switch to an elderly man with a boy: they're looking for a daughter who was supposed to be at this festival, but for some reason she's not there. Maybe she went to another one, on the other side of the desert, and we should go after her in the company of dubious raver punks who only know the way. This journey will be mystical, tragic and sometimes shocking, although it is quite predictable for a professional viewer.

"Daddy's daughters. Mom's back, 6+

Directed by Anatoly Koliev. Starring: Philip Pale, Anastasia Sivaeva, Vitaly Kornienko, Eva Smirnova.

The secular premiere of the new "Daddy's Daughters" was mainly devoted to the fact that it was good news for fans of the long-lived series in the feature film. It's about the return to the series of actress Anastasia Sivaeva, who was once the main star of the show. Twelve years ago, she left not only the series, but also the cinema, and now she has returned to the delight of the entire vast fan base: the series will soon turn 20 years old, many of its viewers already have their own adult children.

In the new film, the Vasnetsov-Vasilyev family arrives in Kislovodsk, and from that moment on everything revolves around the relationship between Dasha, played by Sivaeva, and Venik, played by Philip Pale. Everything is fanned by a flair of nostalgia, almost all the main actors of "Daughters" for the entire existence of the franchise are in the frame. You can find out how this reunion will end now in the cinema, and judging by the age rating, the brand's authors want to raise another generation of children on it.

"Major in Dubai", 16+

Directed by Egor Chichkanov. Starring: Pavel Priluchny, Pavel Chinarev, Elizaveta Shakira, Anna Tsukanova-Cott.

Exactly one year ago, a correspondent of Izvestia personally flew to Dubai — specifically to personally see how the new "Major" was being filmed there. It was hot in every sense of the word, and the director promised that a "real summer popcorn action movie" would be waiting for us on October 30, 2025. At least, he didn't cheat with the date: the painting was released on time. We need to look and check what happened. They say the same specialists worked on the action movie as they did on the blockbusters "Mission Impossible" and "James Bond." Pavel Priluchny, the lead actor, also tried to keep up with Tom Cruise and did most of the stunts himself.

The scene we witnessed was a reference to Billy Wilder's Sunset Boulevard, and such cinephile homages immediately command respect. On the other hand, it is interesting to see how the censorship of the UAE was reflected in the film for the domestic viewer, who is used to seeing many things on the screen that can get a lot of trouble in the Emirates. All this is described in detail in our report, be sure to read it before viewing.
