After so many trials: "Harry Potter" fans are thrilled with the teeth of the new Hermione

Fans of "Harry Potter", who were shocked by the choice of the creators of the future series based on Rowling's books of a black actor for the role of Severus Snape, breathed a sigh of relief. They are delighted with the large teeth of the new Hermione, which corresponds to the description of the heroine's appearance in the books, and the actor who will embody Ron on the screen is called the main crash of the upcoming project. On May 27, HBO announced: The new Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger — Dominic McLaughlin, Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton. About the reaction of the fan community and how the characters of "Harry Potter" are described in the books, see the Izvestia article.
Welcome to Hogwarts!
The news that the series will be filmed in the Harry Potter universe appeared in early 2021. Then The Hollywood Reporter reported on the development of the project. Two years later, streaming Max released the first teaser for John Williams' familiar music, which, even after so many years, magically affects fans of the franchise, causing goosebumps and an almost irresistible desire to review all eight films for the thousandth time.
Taking on the production of the series was a bold and risky decision. Generations of "Harry Potter" fans, who grew up on the first and so far only film adaptation, treat the classics and, in general, the world created by the writer J. K. Rowling with particular reverence. Therefore, making a remake is, in a sense, an encroachment on the sacred. The main fear was that it was still impossible to imagine Daniel Radcliffe as Harry, Rupert Grint as Ron, and Emma Watson as Hermione.
Fans' concerns about this increased when it became known that Severus Snape (in the original — Snape) in the series will be played by black actor Paapa Essiedu, known for the TV series "Black Mirror" and "I can destroy you." The decision caused a flurry of haight. According to Alexander Golovin, chief administrator of the largest Harry Potter group on VKontakte (745,000 subscribers), the community took the choice very critically.
— Not because of racism, but because the Western agenda is being introduced into the fairy tale. Snape is African American — this is a specific departure from the canon. And, as we joke in our community, the picture of Snape's oppression by four "white" friends ("Marauders" — James Potter, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and Peter Pettigrew) in school years will play with just the same racist colors. To get out of this trap, HBO will most likely have to add an African—American to the looting team," suggests Alexander Golovin in an interview with Izvestia.
In the pages of The Chamber of Secrets, Snape is a thin man with yellowish skin, a hooked nose, and greasy shoulder—length black hair. And in "Deathly Hallows" the marble-white face of the professor is described. In this sense, Alan Rickman, who died in 2016, was the perfect embodiment in the film adaptation, and comparisons were inevitable.
"This is how the memory of Alan Rickman was distorted," "the authors don't care about the canon," "I still hope this is a PR move," "of all the options where they could have made the character black, they chose the most ridiculous," read the most harmless comments on social networks.
The Golden Trio
The main cast members were selected from 30,000 applications. After the scandal with the dark-skinned Snape, the new Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger were accepted by social media users with relief and more positively. Although on their official pages, the creators prudently closed the comments under the photos of the children. The trio of "newcomers" also received approval from J. K. Rowling herself, the author of a series of books about Hogwarts.
"All three are great, I couldn't be happier," she wrote on her Instagram page.
The role of Harry Potter was given to Dominic McLaughlin. So far, there are only a few projects in his filmography that are scheduled to be released in 2025. The only complaints from social media users are that the actor is too fat for an orphan character. In The Philosopher's Stone, Rowling describes Harry as a boy smaller and weaker than his peers, with a thin face, sharp knees, black hair and bright green eyes.
"Dominic needs to lose a little weight, otherwise he looks more like Dudley," "The boy for the role of Harry is too well—fed," "Harry is too well-fed, Aunt Petunia hardly fed him that well," the Network writes.
The role of Ron Weasley, a skinny and awkward boy with a face strewn with freckles, went to debutant Alastair Stout. Social media users call him cute and handsome.
"I think I'm going to have Crash Ron in the new Harry Potter," admires one member of the fan community on social media.
Most of the attention went to Arabella Stanton, a young actress who had already had experience on the stage of London's West End Theater. Some users found her too dark—skinned, but most noticed the resemblance to the book's heroine, a girl with thick brown hair whose front teeth are slightly larger than necessary.
"Hermione looks cute and her long teeth are perfect!", "They saw Hermione right! Brown hair, big front teeth!", "Hermione really looks like she is described in books!", "For canonical teeth — a plus sign," users from Russia and other countries respond.
According to Alexander Golovin, the new Harry, Ron and Hermione were well received by the fan community.
— In the official photo, the guys are sitting in the grass, and it's not clear if they match the height of the book description. But this is a movie — you can't fit all the book parameters. It seems that the choice of Hermione was influenced by the Western agenda of diversity — the girl was chosen with the skin color of a Latin American. But the bulk of the fandom is happy. But if Hermione had been African-American, then there would have been a riot. And it's not about Potterman racism, as some dim-witted people think, but that it would definitely be a departure from the canon, as in the case of Snape. In any case, I hope that the guys are all gifted as actors, because there were some crazy number of children auditioning," concluded Alexander Golovin.
Who will play Malfoy and Voldemort?
Now that HBO has found its Harry, Ron and Hermione, the main intrigue is who will become the new Draco Malfoy and Lord Voldemort. Tom Felton, who embodied the first Slytherin student and the ideological enemy of the trinity of friends in the film franchise, according to the Daily Mail, will return to the Harry Potter universe, but the creators of the new adaptation assigned him not an on—screen role, but a behind-the-scenes one. His successor, according to the books, should be tall and thin, have a pointed chin, blond hair, and pale and thin skin. It would be a gift for fans if the "new guy" could just as expressively pronounce the letter "p" in the name of the hated Potter.
As for the main antagonist of the story, Tom Riddle, aka Voldemort, the candidacy of Killian Murphy was discussed at the rumor level on the Network. But this information has not been confirmed. It has also not yet been announced who will receive the roles of Harry's foster family, the rest of the numerous Weasleys, Neville Longbottom and many other characters, without whom it is difficult to imagine the magical world.
It is known that the headmaster of Hogwarts school, Professor Dumbledore, will be played in the series by John Lithgow, forester Hagrid — Nick Frost, Professor Minerva McGonagall — Janet McTeer, teacher Quirinus Quirrell — Luke Tallon, gloomy caretaker Argus Filch — Paul Whitehouse.
Filming is expected to begin in the summer of 2025. The premiere date is still unknown. But it's obvious that the project will be the biggest event of its season and will probably be able to beat the streaming ratings in terms of views (at least at the start), no matter how successful it turns out, because the multimillion Harry Potter fan base around the world is guaranteed to join the screen after so many years. Always.
