Abnormal weather awaits Russians in spring 2025: forecast by month, for Easter and May

This year's abnormally warm winter has already occupied a special place in the history of meteorological observations. While some are happy about the absence of frost, others are anxiously watching the thermometer readings. After all, spring will come in a few days, and forecasters say that the weather at this time will be unstable. What will the weather be like in the spring of 2025 in different regions of Russia

Despite the warm January and moderately cold February, spring in Russia will come according to schedule. Forecasters collectively predict unusually warm weather in both the central and northern parts of the country.

The data from the meteorologists of the Yandex Weather service, which was reviewed by Izvestia, indicates that the deviation from the usual weather will be most noticeable in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Volgograd, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Voronezh.

According to experts, deep transfer of heated Atlantic air masses will continue in the spring. Exceeding the climatic norm by more than a degree will affect both the European territory of Russia, the Urals, Western and Eastern Siberia, as well as the Far East. The average positive deviation from the spring norm in all the country's million-plus cities will reach 1.4. An increase of two to three degrees will affect the Arctic zone: the Yamal Peninsula and the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago.

An unusually warm March is forecast in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Voronezh and Perm, as well as in the major cities of the Central Region: Tver, Smolensk, Tula, Bryansk, Orel, Kursk, Lipetsk, Ryazan and Belgorod.

Forecasters added that about 40 mm of precipitation will fall in the capital in March, and 60 mm in May. In addition, a wet spring is expected in Krasnodar (180 mm of precipitation) and Rostov-on-Don (145 mm). However, April will be particularly warm in the Southern, Siberian and partly Volga Federal districts. For example, this will be noticeable in Volgograd, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, Ufa, Kazan and Samara.

The forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Center are more restrained. According to experts, the weather in the European territory of Russia, including the southern regions, will only slightly exceed average temperatures. The exception will be the Northwestern region, where the heat will be more pronounced.

According to Lyudmila Parshina, head of the laboratory at the Hydrometeorological Center, March will be milder than usual in Eastern Siberia and southern Western Siberia by about two to four degrees. However, the expert predicts noticeable warming in these regions only in the second half of April.

It is worth remembering that medium- and long-term forecasts may change. Forecasters admit that science cannot yet make an accurate forecast for more than a week.

Weather for March 2025: when will spring come to Moscow and St. Petersburg

Moscow

In the capital, the air temperature in March will be abnormally warm, but short cold weather returns are also possible. According to the forecast of Evgeny Tishkovets, a leading specialist at the Phobos center, the spring season will come earlier than the climatic norm — not after March 21, when average daily temperatures usually rise above zero, but 7-10 days earlier.

So, by the middle of the month, daytime temperatures can reach +10 degrees, and by the end of the month, the average daily values will be +5...+7 degrees.

Tatiana Pozdnyakova, chief specialist of the Moscow Meteorological Bureau, notes that spring will arrive in the capital in several stages. First in the last days of February, and then finally in the middle of March.

The expert attributes the early arrival of spring to the fact that the soil has already accumulated enough heat and will not have time to freeze during the February frosts. Zero or slightly positive air temperature values are expected at the end of the winter month.

Saint Petersburg

In St. Petersburg, according to forecasts of the Hydrometeorological Center, March will be one to two degrees warmer than normal. By the middle of the month, Phobos experts predict daytime temperatures of up to +5...+6 degrees, night frosts are possible only on some days, and the average daily temperature will exceed +2...+4 degrees.

However, forecasters of the Yandex Weather service note that in March, warming is possible only at the end of the month, the rest of the time the thermometer will stay at + 3 degrees.

Yekaterinburg

The first half of March in Yekaterinburg will still be winter. According to the chief forecaster of the region, Galina Sheporenko, in general, spring in the Middle Urals will be close to the temperature norm, daytime thaws are possible only after the 5th-6th.

— Unless, of course, there is some special circulation [of air] when there is a gross outflow of heat from the south. But that probably won't happen in this situation. An increase in heat is not expected, at least until the middle of the month, and snowmelt is also expected," the expert added.

+2 is expected in the daytime in early March...+3 degrees, and at night -8...-13. The expert expects little precipitation and only after March 7.

In addition, the global forecast of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia also says that in March the temperature in Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk region will be within the climatic norm: about zero during the day and up to -8 degrees at night.

Voronezh

An unusually warm start to spring is promised to residents of the Voronezh region. The average increase in the temperature norm will be from 1.5 to 1.8 degrees.According to Yandex Weather, the air will warm up to +3 degrees in the daytime in the first half of March. In the dark, slight frosts are possible, the temperature will drop to -5 degrees.

The truly spring weather will come only at the end of March, when the thermometer will rise to +7 degrees during the day and up to +1 at night.

However, despite the warmth, we should not expect a drought this year. At the moment, forecasters suggest that three times more precipitation will fall in the region than last year.

Novosibirsk

In March, it will be cold in the center of Siberia — at the end of the month, in remote areas, the air temperature may drop to -35 degrees at night.Experts specify that such weather is abnormal for this period.

In Novosibirsk, in early spring, the average temperature will be -5 degrees during the day, while at night the thermometer will drop to -13 degrees. A noticeable warming will occur only in the last days of March. The air will warm up to +3 degrees during daylight hours.

Weather forecast for April 2025 and Easter

Moscow

Gradual warming is expected in Moscow in April 2025, but the weather will remain changeable. According to Yandex Weather, the average monthly temperature will be about +10 degrees.

So, at the beginning of the month, daytime temperatures will stay within +5...+7 degrees, and slight frosts up to -1 degrees are possible at night.Significant warming will occur in mid-April, closer to Easter: It will be about +12 degrees during the day and about +2 degrees at night. After Easter, which falls on April 20, 2025, the air will warm up to +15 degrees, and the nights will also get warmer — about +4 degrees. This weather will continue until the end of the month.

According to forecasters, 11 days with prolonged precipitation are expected in Moscow in April. According to preliminary forecasts, 7% of the city's norm falls in just one month.

Saint Petersburg

Gradual warming is expected in St. Petersburg, with temperature fluctuations typical for spring. According to Yandex Weather data, the average daytime temperature in early April will be about +6 degrees, which is not much higher than normal.

On some days, the thermometer will rise to +9 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will remain cool, averaging around 0 degrees. In the second half of the month, the air will warm up to +12 degrees during the day, at night it will be about +3 degrees.

There will be relatively little precipitation in April: about 33 mm, mainly in the form of rain. However, the weather in St. Petersburg is known for its variability, so it is recommended to carry an umbrella and waterproof shoes. In addition, wind gusts up to 6-7 m/s can enhance the feeling of coolness, especially in the evening and morning.

Yekaterinburg

There will be many warm and sunny days in Yekaterinburg in April. So, Yandex Weather experts noted that the second month of spring will delight the residents of the city with seven clear days, the rest will be held with variable clouds. The average daytime temperature will be about +8 degrees, and the nighttime temperature will be about -1 degree. At the beginning of the month, during daylight hours, the air will warm up from +3 to +5 degrees, at night it is expected to reach -3 degrees.

By mid-April, daytime temperatures will reach +9 degrees, at night the temperature will be around zero. At the end of April, the air may warm up to +12 degrees during the day, and about +2 degrees is expected at night. The amount of precipitation in April will be about 38 mm, which corresponds to about nine days of precipitation.

Voronezh

In April, residents of the Voronezh Region will continue to enjoy the abnormally warm weather. According to forecasts, the average daily temperature may reach about +13 degrees and above.

The air will warm up to +8 in the afternoon...+11 degrees, 0...+3 degrees is expected at night. In the second week of April, the air will warm up to +14 degrees, and the month will end with warming to +18 degrees. The temperature won't drop below +7 degrees at night.

There will be nine days of sunshine in April. Daylight hours will increase to 14 hours by the end of the month. However, increased precipitation is expected in April: about 47.5 mm, which is 8% of the annual norm.

Novosibirsk

In April, Novosibirsk gradually wakes up from its winter hibernation, welcoming the long-awaited spring warmth. Yandex Weather data shows that the average daytime temperature this month is about +8 degrees, and the night temperature is about -1 degrees.

The beginning of the month will be within the acceptable range. So, during the day the air will warm up from +4 to +7 degrees, at night frosts are possible, the indicators will be from -3 to -1 degrees. By mid-April, the thermometer rises to +10 degrees during daylight hours and about 0 degrees at night.

April ends with a lot of warm and sunny days. During the day, the readings will rise to +14 degrees and +3 degrees at night. Precipitation in the second month of spring will reach approximately 34 mm. The rains will be mostly light. In the last days of the month, daylight hours will be up to 15 hours, giving citizens more hours of sunshine for walking and outdoor activities.

Moscow

The air humidity will remain at 64%, and the average wind speed will not exceed 3 m/s.

Saint Petersburg

The last spring month in St. Petersburg promises to be quite typical for this time of year - without extreme heat, but also without too prolonged coolness. According to Yandex Weather, in early May, daytime temperatures will range from +9 degrees to +12 degrees, then the air will warm up to +14... +16 degrees.

The nights will still be cool, averaging about +5 degrees. On some days, the thermometer can rise to +17 degrees, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Increased precipitation is expected in May — about ten rainy days. Humidity, as usual for St. Petersburg, will be high (70%), and the wind, although not too strong (2-6 m/s), is quite capable of adding coolness on cloudy days.

Yekaterinburg

In May, Yekaterinburg promises to delight the citizens with real spring warmth. According to general forecasts, daytime temperatures will gradually rise from +11 degrees at the beginning of the month to +20 degrees by the end of the month.

It will also become more comfortable at night — from +2 to +10 degrees. In the middle of the month, especially in the period from the 12th to the 16th, the warmest days are expected with temperatures up to +18 degrees.61 mm of precipitation has been falling in the last month, which corresponds to 12 rainy days. Voronezh

In Voronezh, May will be a real transition to summer. By the middle of May, the air will warm up to +20 degrees. The weather at night will also improve noticeably: up to +10 degrees.

The city will finally tune in to the summer wave only in the last days of the month. Data from the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia indicates that during the day the thermometer will show a steady +23 degrees, and night temperatures will rise to +12 degrees. On such days, you can safely get out your summer clothes, walk in the parks until late at night and enjoy the really warm weather.

Rains, of course, will remind you of themselves from time to time — precipitation is expected for about 10 days per month, but they will not spoil the overall impression of spring. The wind will be light 3-4 m/s, and the humidity will be comfortable, approximately 60%.

Novosibirsk

The last month of spring will be atypical for the region. In early May, the temperature during daylight hours will be around +10...+14 degrees, at night — about +2...+5 degrees. However, by mid—May, it will be up to +18 degrees outside during the day, and up to +7 degrees at night.

By the end of the month, Novosibirsk will finally adjust to summer: it will warm up to +21 degrees during the day and up to +11 degrees at night. About ten rainy days are expected in May, but they will be more refreshing than prolonged. The air humidity will remain at 55-60%, and the wind will be moderate, about 3-4 m/s.
