Grigory Karasin, First Deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, said that Kiev's new restrictions on Russian citizens and crypto exchanges indicate the desire of the Ukrainian authorities to demonstrate strength against the background of the lack of other effective levers of pressure.

In an interview with the "Paragraph" on Monday, October 12, the senator expressed the opinion that Kiev is trying to compensate for the lack of foreign policy successes, including after contacts with representatives of the United States, by tightening restrictive measures.

The politician linked the actions of the Ukrainian authorities with a change in Washington's position and Donald Trump's calls for a change in the leadership of Ukraine. Karasin believes that against this background, Kiev will continue to increase pressure in various areas, trying to demonstrate its importance.

"This is a manifestation of the fact that they are escalating out of desperation in all areas," the senator stressed.

According to Karasin, sanctions against Russians, whom Kiev associates with the defense industry, are designed to create the appearance of strengthening the positions of the Ukrainian leadership. However, such steps, he believes, are not able to change the situation.

"Zelensky is imitating the desired strengthening and tightening of his positions. It looks a bit inappropriate right now, to say the least. The regime's perspective is slipping away," the politician concluded.

On October 11, Ukraine announced new anti-Russian sanctions. The restrictions affected operators of crypto exchanges, digital currency exchange services, as well as 70 Russian citizens whom the Ukrainian authorities consider to be associated with the military-industrial complex. Life.ru . In total, 108 individuals and 48 legal entities were sanctioned, writes RT. The majority are citizens and residents of Russia, the website clarifies. kp.ru . Two ships were also included in the list.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in early October that the United States is striving to end the Ukrainian conflict and play a constructive role in its settlement. Rubio also added that the issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO is not on the agenda now, NSN notes.
