Lavrov discussed the situation in the Middle East with the Lebanese Prime Minister

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Lebanese Republic Nawaf Salam on the sidelines of the high-level week of the UN General Assembly. This was announced on September 24 on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"During the conversation, an interested exchange of views took place on the development of the situation in the Middle East region, with a focus on the situation in and around Lebanon," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

It is specified that the parties discussed the situation in Lebanon and issues of further development of Russian-Lebanese relations. The Russian Federation has confirmed its position in support of the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.

The meeting also touched upon the need to end hostilities in the country and create conditions for a political and diplomatic settlement in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. In addition, the negotiators discussed the possible continuation of the UN presence in Lebanon after the end of the mandate of the organization's Interim Forces.

On September 23, Lavrov discussed with his Syrian counterpart, Asaad Hassan Shibani, the need for countries to join forces to assist the Syrian leadership in overcoming the challenges of the transition period. On the same day, Lavrov held a meeting with Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Affairs Abroad Badr Abdel Ata. The parties discussed the most significant issues of Russian-Egyptian cooperation, including maintaining a political dialogue, expanding trade and economic ties, and implementing major bilateral infrastructure projects.
