Handelsblatt reported on the rapid "aging" of the German population

In Germany, young people between the ages of 15 and 24 make up only a tenth of the population — about 8.3 million people, while their share remains at its lowest level since the early 2020s. This was reported on August 10 by the Handelsblatt newspaper with reference to the Federal Statistical Office.

"The proportion of young people in the total population has remained at such a low level since the early 2020s," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, last year the largest proportion of young people was registered in Bremen — 11.1%, Hamburg — 10.5% and Baden-Württemberg — 10.4%. At the same time, Germany's indicator was lower than the average for the European Union (EU), which was 10.7%. Ireland became the EU leader in the proportion of young people with 12.7%, while Malta recorded the lowest figure at 9.4%.
