In Germany, a record low water level in the Rhine was reported

The water level in the Rhine River near Dusseldorf dropped to a record low of 14 cm. This was reported on August 7 by the NTV channel, citing data from the German Federal Office of Waterways and Shipping (WSV).

The minimum figure was recorded at 15:15 local time (16:15 Moscow time). The ministry noted that this water level was the lowest for the entire observation period on this section of the river.

The situation is not expected to improve significantly in the coming days. Experts attribute the ongoing shallowing of the Rhine to the lack of precipitation that has persisted in Europe in recent months.

The problem has also affected other major European rivers. In particular, a decrease in water levels is noted on the Danube.

Experts warn that the effects of shallowing could affect the German economy. Due to the deterioration of conditions for navigation on the Rhine, the country may lose 0.1–0.2% of GDP in the third quarter, experts say.
