Axios reported on the US preparations for the announcement of the Oman-Iran deal on August 5.

The United States may announce a temporary agreement with Iran and Oman on navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on August 5 by the Axios portal.

"The United States, Iran and Oman are approaching the conclusion of an interim agreement on the resumption of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. According to two regional sources and an American official, the United States plans to announce this on Wednesday," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, the agreement is designed for 60 days and provides for the resumption of vessel traffic through the strait. Incoming vessels will follow the northern route through Iranian waters, while outgoing vessels will follow the southern route through Omani waters in coordination with Tehran.

During this period, no duties will be charged from the vessels, and the parties also intend to proceed with the mine clearance of the central shipping channel. As Axios noted, the agreement should facilitate the resumption of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran, as well as the return of the parties to negotiations on the nuclear deal.

While Washington is threatening Tehran, Oman is offering a compromise plan to restore shipping through Hormuz.

On August 5, US President Donald Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened to navigation as soon as possible, otherwise the US army would strike Iran. In addition, the central command of the US Armed Forces added that more than 1,000 commercial vessels passed through the Strait of Hormuz in three months with the assistance of the US military.

Prior to that, Trump said that Washington would not allow fees to be levied on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz from Tehran. At the same time, according to the American leader, his country has established full control over this maritime territory, and therefore any extortion from commercial and military vessels should take place only with the knowledge of the United States.
