Several dozen MGIMO students took academic leave to sign contracts and go to the front to participate in a special military operation, university rector Anatoly Torkunov said on July 31.

The head announced this at the MGIMO graduation ceremony for veterans of the Military educational System who completed professional retraining under the program "Urban Infrastructure Management and Territorial Development".

Torkunov stated that he looks with admiration at people whose breasts are covered with state awards received during his military service. He expressed gratitude to the heroes for their courage and heroism.

"I can sincerely say that the younger generation of students highly appreciates the work that you have done at your university, and this is evidenced by the many volunteer projects that are being implemented at the university. I'm not saying that more than a dozen students have taken academic leave and gone to their studies. <...> Some of them have already graduated from the institute, and there are those who, having taken an academic leave, intend to continue completing their studies a little later," said the rector.

He added that some of them have already been awarded orders for their participation in their education, and they are being tried to maximize their involvement in educational work at MGIMO.
