Scientists have created an artificial brain to predict heart disease
An international team of scientists led by Patricia Angela R. Abu from Ateneo de Manila University has presented an artificial intelligence (AI) model that predicts the efficiency of blood pumping by the heart with high accuracy. Medical Xpress magazine reported on the development of the system on July 29.
According to the World Health Organization, cardiovascular diseases are increasingly common in young people aged 20 to 29 years. The reason is the increase in the rates of obesity, hypertension and diabetes among the young population of the planet.
The developed technology operates on the principle of an artificial brain, analyzing data from non-invasive sensory stickers on the patient's skin. The system evaluates heart rate, stroke volume, and cardiac output. The accuracy of classification of the organ condition was 97.78%.
According to the authors of the study, the use of modern algorithms makes advanced monitoring practically available even in those medical institutions where there are no specialized hemodynamic analyzers and specialized staff.
"The results point to a future in which enhanced assessment of the cardiovascular system will no longer be limited to the walls of large hospitals and specialized clinics," the researchers emphasize.
The new method is considered as a promising alternative to traditional monitoring procedures that require strict clinical control. In the future, the researchers plan to confirm the effectiveness of the approach on more diverse populations and reduce the number of measurements required for analysis.
Maxim Petukhov, Director of IT at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), said in an interview with Izvestia on March 5 that AI enhances the work of a doctor, rather than completely replacing it. He also noted that the introduction of AI often has a direct economic effect, contrary to the widespread myth that such technologies are expensive.
