US President Donald Trump will address the White House Correspondents' Association at a rescheduled dinner after the event was disrupted by a gunman who broke into the Hilton Hotel in April. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on July 24.

This time, the meeting will take place at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, and the building's security will be heavily reinforced. Secret Service Director Sean Curran told reporters that the advance team is implementing a comprehensive security plan at the hotel.

"We expect ill-wishers to appear. That's the reality, but we treat this facility the same as any other place the president visits," Curran said.

According to media reports, the upcoming Friday dinner will be dedicated to Secret Service officer Victor Gonzalez, who was shot at a checkpoint at the entrance to the hotel ballroom in April. It is believed that it was his actions that made it possible to stop the attack.

Trump and his wife Melania were evacuated from the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on April 25 after the sounds of gunfire. Later, the American leader announced that the shooter had been detained. The federal prosecutor in Washington, Jeanine Pirro, reported that the detainee would appear in court after the shooting. According to the New York Post, the shooter turned out to be a 31-year-old man from California, Cole Thomas Allen.

CNN reported on April 27 that the shooter at the reception with the participation of the US president was charged with the attempted assassination of the American leader, and he faces life in prison.
