Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn has released the first full—length thriller in 10 years, Her Personal Hell. The action takes place in a futuristic metropolis surrounded by neon lights. Visually, the new work echoes his "Neon Demon" of 2016.

Now he uses two storylines. The first one reveals the story of the young actress Elle. She comes to the metropolis to participate in the filming of the film, which is being produced by her father. One day, the actress unwittingly witnesses a brutal murder. It turns out that a serial maniac, nicknamed the Leather Man, is operating in the city. The second storyline tells about an American private Kay, who is looking for his daughter. He is convinced that the same Leather Man is behind the disappearance. As events unfold, El and Kay's paths cross.

"Days of Sakamoto", 18+

The Japanese action comedy is based on the manga of the same name by Yuto Suzuki. The plot centers on former hitman Taro Sakamoto, who left crime for his family. Together with his wife, Aoi, he brings up his daughter, Hana, and runs a small store. The idyll collapses when the enemies announce a bounty of 1 billion yen on his head. To protect himself and his family, Sakamoto has to remember his fighting skills. Although the years of quiet, measured life have borne fruit — he has noticeably gained weight, and humor is based on this.

The French melodrama resembles the plot of the 2005 American comedy of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. At the center of the story is the medium Elsa, who can see the dead. However, this gift condemns her to loneliness. One evening, the girl gets into an accident, and the light and resourceful Oscar comes to her rescue. There is a connection between the characters, but it soon turns out that Oscar is from the world of the dead.

The director relies on human relationships, where mysticism serves only as an artistic tool for talking about love and acceptance. Nevertheless, the storylines may seem too predictable, which is unlikely to appeal to the sophisticated viewer. Paris becomes a chamber space where the characters try to find their place.

"My wild friend. Homecoming", 6+
