Chinese chip exports nearly doubled in the first half of 2026 amid a surge in global interest in artificial intelligence (AI) development. This was reported on July 14 by the South China Morning Post, citing data from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China.

In the first six months of 2026, China exported 179.44 billion integrated circuits worth a total of $177.28 billion, which is more than 96% more than in 2025.

As noted, the sale of microchips has become one of the key factors for the significant growth of all Chinese exports over the specified period. At the same time, an impressive volume of exports was provided by trade in related technologies. According to Chinese customs, exports of data processing equipment, including computers, servers and other computing components, increased by 41.3% to $138.08 billion.

Chinese companies have also increased exports of AI-enabled consumer goods, with AI glasses, AI translators, and robotic exoskeletons among the fastest-growing categories, the South China Morning Post notes.

Earlier, on July 13, Bloomberg reported that the June sales figures of Taiwan's TSMC, the world's largest manufacturer of microchips and chips, increased by 68% compared to the same period in 2025. The company's sales increased by 36% in the second quarter of 2026.
