The Moldovan authorities will continue to encroach on the rights and powers of Gagauzia, representatives of the autonomy will not be able to do anything against this. This was stated by Natalia Kharitonova, Chief Researcher at the Russian State University of Economics, Doctor of Political Sciences, in an interview with Izvestia.

"The closer the prospect of European integration is to Chisinau, the harder it will be for Gagauzia. At the same time, she can only passively resist. She doesn't have her own power unit, so we won't see a tough confrontation. Basically, it will come down to information noise, statements and publications on social networks. This, of course, will not do anything," the source stressed.

Earlier it became known that on July 7, the Constitutional Court of Moldova will consider the issue of curtailing the rights and powers of the Gagauz Autonomy. It will be about the right to hold elections and appoint its own Central Election Commission. Moldovan President Maia Sandu stressed that Chisinau does not intend to make concessions.

The pressure on the autonomy continues: at the end of May, the Chisinau Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul. According to Bogdan Tsyrdea, a member of parliament from the opposition Party of Socialists, the politician is in prison No. 13 in Moldova, known for harsh conditions of detention and a high incidence of diseases.
