Dmitriev called on Germany to admit its mistakes and change course.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz needs to change his political course and admit his mistakes in order to preserve Germany's credibility. This was announced on July 2 by Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and Special Representative of the President of Russia for investment and Economic cooperation with foreign countries.
"Admit your mistakes and change course to save Germany, or the AfD will do it for you," he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
Dmitriev also said that longing for the times when politicians were better and made more informed decisions indicates Germany's need for a more rational approach. The reason for the comment was Friedrich Merz's statement on the German Phoenix TV channel. The Chancellor noted that he understands the "longing for the old days," but stressed the need to "act decisively" and continue the course of change.
The leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel, said on June 30 that she expects to be able to lead the national government following the results of the next parliamentary elections in the country in 2029. If successful in the regional elections, Alternative for Germany could strengthen its influence in the federal states and challenge Berlin's policies.
Political analyst Alexander Rahr on Friday, June 26, expressed the opinion that the position of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz remains extremely shaky. He noted that the constant disagreements within the ruling coalition and the government's inability to carry out the necessary reforms could lead to a political crisis, the early dissolution of parliament and a change of government.
