The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Venezuela has increased to 1,450 people, more than 3.1 thousand victims remain in hospitals. This was announced on June 28 by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the country, Jorge Rodriguez.

"In today's summary, we must announce that the death toll has reached 1,450 people — women and men who lost their lives as a result of the worst natural disaster that our country has experienced in its entire history," Rodriguez said at a briefing broadcast by VTV on the You Tube platform.

According to the Speaker of the parliament, there are 3,150 injured people in medical institutions in the state of La Guayra and 7 other affected regions. Rodriguez also noted that the total number of citizens affected by the disaster has reached 12,721.

Powerful earthquakes occurred in Venezuela on June 24, the magnitude of one of which reached 7.5. The natural disaster was the strongest in the country since 1900. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said a day later that Russia was considering the possibility of providing humanitarian assistance to Venezuela. The European Union, in turn, allocated €5 million for emergency assistance to the republic.

Russian President Vladimir Putin sent his condolences to the authorized President of the Republic, Delcy Rodriguez, in connection with the incident, and she, in turn, thanked him for expressing solidarity with her people.
