The narcologist assessed the existence of a safe dose of alcohol
There is no safe dose of alcohol that is guaranteed to carry no health risks. This was stated by psychiatrist and narcologist Ruslan Isaev on Friday, June 26.
"If earlier the possible protective effect of small doses of alcohol on the cardiovascular system was discussed, more recent large studies have shown that even moderate consumption is associated with an increased risk of a number of diseases, including certain types of cancer, liver disease and disorders of the cardiovascular system," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
He added that the risk is not the same for everyone, and it is influenced by age, gender, genetic characteristics, health status, the presence of chronic diseases and the nature of use.
Isaev stressed that alcohol is not only a toxic substance that can cause poisoning, but also a psychoactive substance that can form addiction.
"Therefore, narcology evaluates not only the amount of alcohol consumed, but also a person's relationship with alcohol," he stressed.
He added that for a doctor, it matters not only how much a person drinks, but also their ability to stop drinking, control the amount of alcohol consumed, and the question of whether alcohol is becoming a mandatory way to cope with stress and anxiety, as well as a way to relax.
On the eve of June 25, Isaev said that drunkenness in the early stages often looks like increased domestic use, so the key is not one symptom, but a combination of behavioral and biological signs.
Earlier, on May 29, psychiatrist-narcologist Marina Kalyuzhnaya stated that there are no precise household signs by which it can be unequivocally said that alcohol has worn off and it is possible to get behind the wheel.
