Drunkenness in the early stages often looks like an increase in domestic use, so the key is not one symptom, but a combination of behavioral and biological signs. Ruslan Isaev, a psychiatrist, head of Dr. Isaev's Clinic, and a narcologist, told about this on Thursday, June 25.

According to Isaev, the first sign is a change in attitude to the dose and drinking situation: a person begins to regularly exceed the initially planned amount of alcohol, loses control over the amount of alcohol consumed already in the process.

Then a person's tolerance increases: they need more alcohol to achieve the same effect. The narcologist emphasized that this is one of the objective neurobiological markers of addiction formation. The next factor is episodes of alcoholic amnesia, even with seemingly non—excessive doses, Isaev added.

"An obsessive craving for alcohol appears: a person begins to plan their use in advance, "wait for an excuse," and get annoyed when they cannot drink. In addition, there is a change in the behavioral pattern: justification of use, a decrease in criticism of it, a gradual shift of interests towards situations where there is alcohol," the expert said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The narcologist explained that the most effective strategy for helping a dependent person is not confrontation or pressure, but building a dialogue with an emphasis on caring and the facts of observed behavior.
