- The WSJ reported on the discussion between the United States and Qatar about Iran's use of frozen assets
The United States is working with Qatar to create a mechanism that will allow Iran to use some of its frozen assets to purchase humanitarian goods. This was reported on June 19 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
"The United States, together with Qatar, is developing a plan to provide Iran with billions of dollars from frozen funds for humanitarian purposes, which will be another financial incentive under the recently signed agreement to end the war," the publication says.
According to the publication, at the first stage, Tehran can gain access to $ 6 billion that is stored in Qatar. It is assumed that, at the request of the Central Bank of Iran, the Doha authorities will allow the payment of food, medicines and other humanitarian goods from these funds.
It is specified that about $100 billion of Iranian funds have been frozen in the world. These are mainly oil export revenues that remained in accounts in India, Iraq, Qatar and China due to the sanctions regime.
On June 15, a journalist from the Sxios portal, Barak Ravid, said that a senior American official denied Iran's statement about the alleged unblocking of $12 billion of the Islamic Republic's frozen funds without preconditions as part of a settlement with the United States.
