AP reported on Iran's refusal to negotiate with the United States due to Israeli attacks in Lebanon

The Iranian authorities refused to participate in the talks with the United States in Switzerland scheduled for June 19 due to the ongoing Israeli strikes on Lebanese territory. This was reported by the Associated Press (AP) on June 19, citing sources.

"Iranian officials did not go to Switzerland as planned, insisting on a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon before the start of negotiations," the publication says.

It is noted that mediators would have participated in the negotiations, and their outcome should have been progress towards a final end to the conflict.

The escalation in the south of the country has called into question Washington's barely reached agreements with Tehran.

On June 17, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum on the cessation of hostilities. American Vice President J. D. Vance canceled his trip to the solemn conclusion of the deal between the United States and Iran, CNN correspondent Caitlan Collins reported on June 18.

The Swiss Foreign Ministry said on June 19 that the talks between Washington and Tehran scheduled earlier in Burgenstock had been canceled. The Axios portal reported on the same day that Stephen Witkoff, the special representative of the American President Donald Trump, was heading to Switzerland ahead of potential negotiations on a nuclear deal with Iran.

Ivan Bocharov, program manager of the Russian International Affairs Council, expressed the opinion on June 19 that Washington and Tehran had been expecting the signing of the memorandum, and after this happened, it became necessary to determine further steps.
