Light treatment: volunteer doctors have introduced a new laser method of wound healing
Artyom Shiryaev, an oncologist and volunteer, is helping to introduce a new laser wound treatment method in Donbass, developed jointly with Moscow scientists. And the head of the Kharabalinsky district of the Astrakhan region, Alexey Shtonda, together with like-minded people, has been regularly delivering humanitarian supplies to military personnel and residents of frontline territories for several years. How volunteers help new regions, from the introduction of medical technologies to the organization of supplies of everything necessary, is described in the Izvestia article.
A volunteer doctor and a new treatment method
Artyom Shiryaev graduated from the Smolensk State Medical Academy, and then completed postgraduate studies at the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University. He became an oncologist and a surgeon.
I started volunteering 10 years ago. During this time, he and his colleagues have developed and implemented a unique method of wound treatment.
— When the special military operation began, we had our own initiative project. This is a collaboration between Sechenov University and the Central Clinical Military Hospital. Vishnevsky. There we began to introduce and test a new technique for the treatment of purulent chronic injuries," recalls the doctor.
He added that gradually, together with his other volunteer colleagues, they began to introduce this method of treatment.
— We have achieved successful results. Thanks to the sponsorship, we are working with specialists from the Institute of General Physics. Prokhorov and the laboratory of laser spectroscopy, headed by Professor Viktor Borisovich Vashunov, were able to move even further," says the doctor. — Together, the staff of these organizations have made two installations, two LED lasers for wound treatment.
Later, this equipment was transferred to the hospital in Volnovakha. From that time to this day, several of their colleagues have been working there, explained Artyom Shiryaev. He clarified that this technique is now being used in the process of restoring military personnel and the civilian population of Donbass.
Initially, the method was developed for the treatment of oncological diseases, but subsequently showed high effectiveness in the treatment of long-term non-healing infected wounds.
— In the conditions of the frontline territories and the specifics of the injuries faced by doctors of Volnovakha, this method, in fact, has become indispensable, — said the doctor.
The technology is based on the use of special substances — photosensitizers. They are injected into the body or applied to the damaged area, after which the area of exposure is irradiated with a laser of a certain wavelength. Photosensitizers accumulate mainly in pathological cells and bacteria. Under the influence of light, reactive oxygen species are formed, destroying pathogenic microflora and promoting tissue regeneration.
According to Shiryaev, the availability of high-tech medical care in the regions of Novorossiya needs to be expanded.
— Thanks to this, residents will be able to receive world-class treatment without leaving anywhere. In addition, the introduction of digital standards will help the exchange of research data, and the use of telemedicine technologies will provide direct consultations with leading experts in Moscow.
The doctor called the systematic training of Donetsk specialists in new medical technologies directly at the workplace an equally important task.
Every month there is a humanitarian cargo
We met the second hero of the material by chance in Lugansk. The military personnel of one of the military units performing combat missions in the special operation zone said that they were about to meet another batch of volunteer aid. It turned out that the head of the Kharabalinsky district of the Astrakhan region, Alexey Shtonda, and his comrades have been doing this regularly for several years now.
— This time we arrived in two cars — our regular Lada Largus and a cargo UAZ-loaf. The second car was provided by one of the largest agricultural enterprises in the region," Shtonda said.
According to him, they have now brought more than 400 square meters to the fighters. m camouflage nets made by members of the volunteer group "Maskset mobilization Astrakhan" and Kharabali craftsmen, four radio stations with batteries, tools and a jack, which were purchased with funds raised by employees and veterans of the Kharabali district police Department.
— Almost all preschool institutions and secondary schools of the district have prepared gifts — food, warm clothes, medicines, hygiene products. At the request of the fighters, we got a large 50-liter cylinder fully filled with liquefied gas for them," Alexey Shtonda proudly drew attention.
In addition, the residents of the city provided active support. So, one of them, on his own initiative, purchased warm clothes, a set of tools, and medicines for military personnel. Another resident made amulet toys for the fighters with her own hands.
Alexey Shtonda talked with the fighters, told them the latest regional news, asked about the service, listened to the wishes and requests of the guys.
— This trip will not be the last. The collection of warm clothes, food, medicines and other things necessary for our soldiers will continue. We do not abandon our own people and we will do everything for our speedy victory, and it will definitely be ours! — Alexey Shtonda summed up.
The activities of volunteers in the special operation zone can take different forms. The main thing is targeted assistance to those who need it. And these examples show that people understand the need to come together to solve common problems. And recently, more and more people who had not previously imagined themselves as volunteers have been thinking about volunteering.
