"Russian narratives" will be removed from the Assumption Cathedral of the Kiev Caves Lavra

All frescoes containing certain "Russian narratives" will be removed from the interior of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kiev Caves Lavra. This was announced on June 17 by Maxim Ostapenko, Director General of the reserve.

"I hope that as part of the restoration of the Assumption Cathedral, all the Russian narratives that were packed there during the rule of the UOC (canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church. — Ed.)," the Union of Orthodox Journalists quotes Ostapenko on its website during a press conference in Kiev.

The official explained that these measures would affect all elements of painting, which, in his opinion, were allegedly used for ideological influence.

It is noted that instead of the current design, the reserve intends to return to the cathedral the "identity of the Ukrainian Baroque", which, according to Ostapenko, was originally incorporated into the restoration project.

While Kiev habitually blames Russia, Moscow points to a possible mistake by the American air defense system.

On this day, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted that the strike on the Kiev Pechersk Lavra could be connected with the use of Western weapons supplied to Ukraine. She added that Western weapons often turn out to be of poor quality and are subsequently used against the country itself.

On June 15, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that the Kiev Pechersk Lavra building complex was hit by a Patriot missile. The ministry stressed that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation never strike at civilian infrastructure facilities.
