An auto expert explained the danger of starting the engine in a car flooded by heavy rains

Ivan Osmolovsky, head of the E.N. Cars service, told on Monday, June 15, what to do to owners of cars that were flooded after heavy rains that took place in a number of Russian regions over the weekend, and whether it is possible to cope on their own.

The expert stressed that if the water level allows you to reach the battery, the first step is to disconnect the terminal — this will reduce the risk of short circuits. He added that it is useless to touch a completely submerged car, since the ingress of water in a large volume will cause short circuits and disable most electronic components. In addition, he stressed that it is strictly forbidden to start the engine — a water hammer will immediately destroy the engine.

According to Osmolovsky, it is difficult to cope with the consequences of the flood on your own without professional equipment and experience — it will require the work of specialists.

"The car should be evacuated to a service, preferably specializing in a specific brand, where its device is thoroughly known," he said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

The expert explained that the craftsmen disassemble the interior almost to bare metal: they remove the seats, carpet, instrument panel, dismantle all electronic components, connectors, wiring harnesses. Each element is carefully inspected, cleaned, dried, and then repaired or replaced. The same analysis is carried out in the engine compartment. This process can take several months, he added.

At the same time, the expert noted that about 90% of drowned cars are subject to restoration.
