The meteorological spring in central Russia has ended, giving way to calendar summer. However, it's too early to rejoice: in the preliminary forecasts, forecasters note a high probability of temperature anomalies. What weather to expect in June 2026: general data
Accurate weather forecasts for the summer are difficult to make, as the weather is constantly changing, and the most accurate data can only be obtained a few days in advance. Therefore, long-term forecasts are based on long-term data on standard weather conditions.
"According to climatic data, the highest temperature of the year is observed in July in the Middle zone of the European part of Russia. June is an intermediate month. By the end of the month, the temperature will rise, of course. The average temperature in the Middle Zone reaches +18...19 degrees," forecaster and meteorologist Alexander Shuvalov told Izvestia.
The meteorologist also noted a close, almost one hundred percent correlation between air temperature and the amount of precipitation: the higher the temperature, the greater the amount of precipitation.
"But, of course, it doesn't happen year after year. There are large variations over the years. The average monthly temperature may differ quite significantly. In some years, the temperature can be below +10 degrees. This is, of course, a unique case, but it happens. And the most recent frosts have sometimes happened in history in the very first days of June. This is also, of course, a unique phenomenon. But there were years on the contrary when the average monthly temperature exceeded +20 degrees, for example, in 1972 and in the 2010s," the meteorologist warned.
The Hydrometeorological Center of Russia has also published a seasonal forecast for the summer. Tatiana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonovosti news agency, told Izvestia that such background forecasts are created for organizations involved in the fuel complex. Information about whether it will be colder or warmer than usual is a priority for them. At the same time, ordinary people are more interested in when the heat will come, how much precipitation will fall and how "stable" the month will be.
According to the seasonal forecast, anomalies will be observed in Murmansk, Vologda, Syktyvkar, Kirov, Arkhangelsk, Khanty-Mansiysk, Salekhard, Omsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Vladivostok and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in June, where the average temperature will be more than one degree above normal. In parts of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), in Chukotka and in the Magadan region, an abnormal decrease in temperature by one degree should be expected.
Will there be abnormal heavy rains in June
Experts expect a hotter June than usual, as can be seen from the data of the seasonal forecast for the summer from the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia. At the same time, abnormal precipitation is not expected.
"The background forecast says that both in Moscow and in the Central part of Russia, all summer months will be with a positive anomaly in air temperature and with precipitation close to normal," Pozdnyakov comments on the data.
Temperature forecast for June 2026: where to expect abnormal heat
According to the Yandex Weather service, in June Muscovites will have to prepare umbrellas and raincoats — the capital will enjoy sunny weather for only seven days in total. The average air temperature will reach +21 degrees during the day and +13 degrees at night.
Petersburgers are no stranger to rains — just like in Moscow, only seven cloudless days are expected in the Northern capital, according to Yandex Weather. The average temperature during the day will be about +18 degrees, and at night about + 11 degrees. The hottest days will be on June 23 and 29, although precipitation is expected on these days. The average wind speed will be about 5.5 m/s, which is considered a moderate wind.
In Krasnodar, the temperature will rise up to +29 degrees during the day, as indicated by weather aggregators. At the same time, the average temperature during the day will be +27 degrees, and at night — +17. There will be few cloudy days, as well as precipitation: it will rain at the beginning and at the end of the month.
According to Yandex Weather, Novosibirsk will enjoy nine sunny days in June, while the forecast promises clouds and precipitation on the rest of the days. The average temperature during the day is +22 degrees, and at night — +12. The most optimal days for a trip to nature will be the period from June 19 to 23 inclusive — stable sunny weather without precipitation is expected.
June rains will fall in Kazan for a total of nine days. The hottest day will come on Friday, June 26: +24 degrees. The average daytime air temperature will stay around +22 degrees, and at night — on average about +12. A series of days without precipitation should be expected at the end of the month: from 26 to 28 June, according to weather aggregators.
Rainy June is expected in Yekaterinburg — according to Yandex Weather, there will be only five sunny days. The average temperature will stay around +21 degrees during the day and +11 degrees at night. The hottest day will come on Saturday, June 27 — +22 degrees without precipitation.
Folk signs about the weather
The first month of summer in Russia was called "khleborostom" and "multicolored." In those days, people paid attention to various weather signs, from the behavior of insects to the frequency of precipitation.
So, according to popular beliefs, the evening rainbow in June promised good weather, and frequent fogs promised a rich harvest of mushrooms. If a lark built a nest in a hole, they prepared for a dry summer, and if on a hillock, then for a wet one. The morning mist over the water foreshadowed sunny weather, and the low flight of swallows and swifts meant rain.
