A red Book humpback whale, entangled in ropes off Kildin Island in the Murmansk region, was rescued. Anastasia Kunitsa, a marine mammal specialist and an employee of Murmansk Arctic University, announced the successful completion of the operation on June 13.

"We did it! We've got him figured out! On the first try! It just worked perfectly!" she wrote on her Telegram channel.

Before that, the governor of the Murmansk Region, Andrey Chibis, noted that Rosprirodnadzor had officially authorized the whale rescue operation. Specialists from Murmansk Arctic University, together with experts from the Council on Marine Mammals and volunteers, assessed the condition of the animal, which had deep injuries.

A wounded whale was spotted in the Barents Sea on June 11. Vyacheslav Kozlov, the head of the Sakhalin Friends of the Ocean response group, said that in the near future they will go to the Murmansk region to help. According to him, this is the only team certified for such operations by the International Whaling Commission.
