Rosstandart has approved a new state standard for toys using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. The document sets out the safety requirements for interactive devices for children aged one to 14 years. This was first reported on the agency's website.

Rosstandart has approved the national standard GOST R "Toys using artificial intelligence technologies. General requirements". The document, which has no international analogues, for the first time establishes a unified approach to ensuring the safety and responsible use of AI technologies in children's products," the report says.

New GOST "Toys using artificial intelligence technologies. General Requirements" applies to interactive dolls and action figures, robotic toys, game consoles and other devices using AI technologies. The standard will enter into force on September 1.

Rosstandart noted that the document provides requirements for the physical, mechanical and fire safety of products, as well as for the protection of the child's personal data and his psycho-emotional well-being.

A special feature of the new GOST is a comprehensive approach to assessing the safety of such devices. For the first time, toys with artificial intelligence are considered as an intelligent gaming environment, where safety depends not only on the design of the product, but also on the operation of algorithms, the nature of interaction with the child and data processing.

In April, <url>, an online educational platform for schoolchildren, conducted a study of parents' expectations regarding children's digital skills in elementary school. According to the data, every second adult believes that additional training in working with neural networks should begin in elementary grades. Only 10% of children actually use AI, while 43% of parents would like minors to be able to work with it by the end of the fourth grade.
