Poland reports on Budanov's visit amid UPA scandal

The head of the office of the President of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov (recognized in the Russian Federation as an extremist and terrorist), will visit Poland, where he will discuss with representatives of the Polish government the decision to assign a unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine named after Ukrainian nationalists from the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA, the organization is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation). This was reported on June 5 by the Polish edition of Onet.

"A close associate of the president should meet, in particular, with representatives of the Polish side," the publication says.

In Warsaw, Budanov will be received by the head of the Bureau of International Policy of the Office of the President Marcin Przydacz. The main topic of the negotiations will be the decision of the Kiev authorities to name one of the units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces "Named after the heroes of the UPA," which caused sharp dissatisfaction with the Polish authorities.

Revision of solidarity: Warsaw tightens rules for Ukrainians

The tension between Kiev and Warsaw is unlikely to turn into an open confrontation, but it is becoming more noticeable.

The fact that a scandal broke out between Poland and Ukraine was reported by The Telegraph newspaper on June 1. It was noted that Warsaw was outraged by the decree of the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, to assign an honorary name to one of the units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in honor of the UPA.

Marcin Przydach, head of the Bureau for International Policy at the Polish presidential administration, advised the Ukrainian leader to apologize for the appropriate act. At the same time, the authorities of the city of Lublin in eastern Poland ordered the removal of the flag of Ukraine from the city hall. Polish Vice Speaker Krzysztof Bosak, commenting on what is happening, pointed to the unwillingness of the republic's administration to see Zelensky in his country.
