"We have very good plans for Cuba. I think you know we need to get rid of the regime. The regime was very harsh, very unpleasant," he said during a conversation with reporters at the White House.

On June 2, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a speech at a hearing in the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives, said that Cuba poses a threat to the national security of the United States.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said on May 22 that Secretary of State Rubio was trying to provoke military aggression against the country. Rubio said on May 21 that Washington would prefer to resolve relations with Cuba through diplomatic means, but the likelihood of such a scenario currently remains low.
