It is noted that the termination of work is directly related to the decree of US President Donald Trump dated May 1. Due to this decision, Cuba will not be able to earn income from the sale of goods and services using internationally recognized cards, including Visa and Mastercard.
According to the message, cash, national prepaid cards Clásica and Tropical, as well as international cards Mir and UnionPay will remain payment methods in the country.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said on May 22 that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was trying to provoke military aggression against the country. He stated that Cuba has never been a threat to the security of the United States. Rodriguez stressed that the main reason for the crisis on the island was the tightening of sanctions by the United States.
Rubio said on May 21 that Washington would prefer to resolve relations with Cuba through diplomatic means, but the likelihood of such a scenario currently remains low. He added that the United States is ready for dialogue if the Cuban authorities change their position, but for now Washington intends to continue its policy of pressure on Havana.
Cuba poses a threat to the national security of the United States, Rubio said on June 2 during a speech at a hearing in the Appropriations Committee of the House of Representatives. He stressed that the state needs systematic and serious changes so that it is no longer considered "failed" and poses a danger to the United States.
