The Washington-Yerevan deal on rare earth minerals should alert the citizens of Armenia, as it exposes the real interests of the United States. This was announced on June 4 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

"But there is something that should really alarm and alarm the citizens of Armenia themselves. This is a framework document on rare earth minerals [USA and Armenia]. This clearly shows where the true interests of the United States of America are," she said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan signed the charter of comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries at a meeting in Yerevan on May 26. In addition, the parties signed agreements on supply assurance, extraction and processing of rare earth minerals, as well as a framework agreement on strategic cooperation within the framework of the Trump's Path for International Prosperity (TRIPP) project.

Zakharova said on June 3 that the United States was not treating Armenia as an equal partner, but was only making empty promises without supporting them with real documents. She added that Washington has already signed strategic partnership agreements with Yerevan, but the United States has not fulfilled its promises on them.
