The meteorologist spoke about the volume of precipitation in Moscow in May
In May 2026, the amount of precipitation in Moscow turned out to be half the climatic norm for that month. Mikhail Lokoshchenko, head of the meteorological Observatory of Lomonosov Moscow State University, announced this on Monday, June 1.
"Last May in Moscow turned out to be generally warm and dry. <...> The amount of precipitation for the whole of May was only 30 mm, which is half the climatic norm for this month (64 mm)," he told the Moscow city News agency.
The meteorologist added that the average monthly temperature in the capital in May was +15.9 degrees with a climatic norm of +13.9 degrees, RT reports.
"During this May, four century—old records of maximum daily temperature for individual days fell in a row: on May 19, 20, 21 and 22, when it reached respectively +30.7, +30.6, +30.7 and +31 degrees," concluded Lokoshchenko.
Earlier in the day, Alexander Shuvalov, head of the Meteo forecasting center, told what kind of weather is expected in Moscow and the Moscow region in the near future. The specialist noted that abnormal heat is not expected in the near future, but the temperature will stabilize at a comfortable level of about +21... +23 degrees throughout the week.
In turn, the chief specialist of the Meteonovosti center, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, told Regnum news agency that from June 1-7 in Moscow, the air will warm up to +20 degrees, and sometimes above +25, which is one and a half degrees more than the climatic norm for early summer.
