Iran has set conditions for a cease-fire in Lebanon for a deal with the United States
Guarantees of a cease-fire in Lebanon are a prerequisite for Tehran to conclude an agreement on the settlement of the conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran. This was announced on June 1 by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Esmail Bagai.
"We insist that a cease—fire in Lebanon is a prerequisite for any deal aimed at ending the war," Al Jazeera quoted Bagai as saying.
He added that no negotiations had been held on the details of the nuclear issue, and the cessation of hostilities was a priority at the current stage.
The Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, said on the same day that the Hezbollah movement guarantees "full, comprehensive and immediate" compliance with the ceasefire previously concluded between Lebanon and Israel, provided that the Israeli army also stops military operations in Lebanon.
On June 1, Axios journalist Barak Ravid noted that Israel should stop attacks on Lebanon after negotiations mediated by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. According to the plan proposed by Washington, at the first stage Hezbollah should stop attacks on Israel, and the Israeli side should abandon the expansion of the military operation, including strikes on Beirut.
On April 16, the ambassadors of Lebanon and Israel held talks in Washington, as a result of which US President Donald Trump announced that the parties had reached a ceasefire agreement. However, despite the formal truce, Israel continues to strike and advance deep into Lebanon, in response to which the Hezbollah movement also resumed military operations.
