Israeli officials have asked Washington to approve the expansion of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) operations in the Lebanese capital, Beirut. This was reported on June 1 by The Jerusalem Post (TJP) newspaper, citing sources.

"Senior Israeli officials have asked senior US officials to allow the IDF to expand strikes on Beirut," the publication said.

According to sources, Israel expects a positive reaction from the United States, given the lack of significant progress both in the negotiations between Washington and Tehran and in the dialogue between Israel and Lebanon.

On May 31, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the Israeli army to expand its operation against Hezbollah and strengthen control over the movement's territories. He also said that over the past month, the Israeli military has killed 700 Hezbollah soldiers.

Later, the Ministry of Health of the republic reported that as a result of Israeli strikes on Lebanon, the number of victims has increased to 3,412 people since March 2.
