Lukashenko announced the possible arrival of Macron's confidant in Minsk
A confidant of French President Emmanuel Macron may arrive in Minsk soon. This was announced by Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko on May 29.
According to Lukashenko, during the telephone conversation, Macron offered to send his representative to discuss issues with Belarus.
"I say, 'Please, if you are afraid to fly to Minsk, send your authorized representative,'— the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.
The Belarusian leader also said that he had discussed with the French president the issues of conducting nuclear exercises with Russia, noting that the use of nuclear weapons is possible only in case of aggression against Belarus.
Earlier in the day, Lukashenko said that he had offered the French leader to call Russian President Vladimir Putin and have a "manly" conversation at the meeting.
Lukashenko and Macron had a telephone conversation on May 24 at the initiative of the French side. During the meeting, the presidents discussed regional issues and relations between Minsk and Brussels. The French TV channel TF1 reported that Macron, in a conversation with Lukashenko, stated the risks for Belarus in the event of the country's involvement in the Ukrainian conflict.
