Putin signed the law on ratification of the cooperation agreement with South Ossetia

On May 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on ratification of the treaty on deepening allied cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia. The relevant document is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.

"To ratify the Treaty on Deepening Allied Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia, signed in Moscow on May 9, 2026," the document says.

It is noted that the law comes into force from the date of its official publication.

Moscow insists on legal obligations, as well as on the relocation of the negotiating platform from Switzerland.

At a meeting with the republic's leader Alan Gagloev on May 9, Putin said that relations between Russia and South Ossetia were developing in a positive way. The President drew attention to the fact that Victory Day is widely celebrated in South Ossetia, as Ossetians took an active part in the Great Patriotic War. According to him, in terms of population, the republic ranks first in terms of the number of heroes of the Soviet Union per capita.
