Anna Pogribnichenko, a student who died in an attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on a college in Starobilsk, Luhansk People's Republic (LNR), was planning a wedding. Her cousin Irina Goloburdova told about it on May 24.
"We talked on the phone <...> She was saying: "I have a fiance. Come, there will be a wedding," Goloburdova said.
According to a relative, shortly before the tragedy, the girl talked about her future plans and was waiting for her fiance to return from the army. The young man was supposed to return within a month. Pogribnichenko was identified by earrings and a chain, after which the girl was buried in a closed coffin.
Teacher Elena Senchenkova, Pogribnichenko's homeroom teacher, said that the girl wanted to become a kindergarten teacher. According to the teacher, she enrolled in a teaching course with her friend. She also came under attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces and was injured.
On May 22, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the academic building and the dormitory of the Starobilsk College. A criminal case was opened into the attack under Part 3 of Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Terrorist act"). 21 people were killed in the attack, and 63 others were injured. The names of all the victims of the terrorist attack have been established. In the LPR, May 24 and 25 were declared days of mourning for the dead. They bring flowers and toys to the college in Starobilsk.
The Commissioner for Human Rights in Russia, Yana Lantratova, announced on May 24 that most of the girls who died in the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack would be buried in wedding dresses. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the attack on the college dormitory a terrorist attack, adding that the attack was not related to military infrastructure.
