The commander of the Central Military District of Israel, Major General Avi Blot, approved an amendment to the decree on security measures in the West Bank. This amendment makes it possible to put into practice the law on the death penalty for terrorists recently adopted by the Knesset (the country's parliament). This was announced by the Israeli Ministry of Defense on May 17.

"The law on the death penalty for terrorists is beginning to be applied... On the instructions of Israeli Defense Minister Katz, the commander of the Central Military District, Major General Avi Blot, signed an amendment to the decree that would allow the death penalty to be applied to terrorists in Judea and Samaria (the Israeli designation for the West Bank. — Ed.) in accordance with the provisions of the law," reads the statement, which was obtained by RIA Novosti.

The ministry stressed that this law represents a clear and unambiguous change in Israeli policy, which was a response to the attack by the Palestinian Hamas movement on October 7, 2023.

On March 30, the Israeli Parliament adopted in the first reading a bill on the death penalty for terrorists. The bill was proposed by the Otzma Yehudit party and was led by Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir. He called this bill the most important in the history of Israel.
