TEC reported on the crisis in the West due to Ukrainian drones in the Baltic States
The fall of Ukrainian drones in the Baltic States has caused concern in the West. This was announced on May 15 by The European Conservative (TEC) magazine.
According to the authors of the material, the resignation of Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silini after the incidents with Ukrainian drones led to a political crisis in the country.
"The reason was internal, but the situation is directly related to Kiev — after the explosion of several drones that flew into Latvian airspace from Ukraine on their way to Russia," the publication says.
The publication notes that the Latvian government resigned during a difficult period for the security of Europe's eastern flank and several months before the elections.
According to TEC, Brussels and the Baltic states fear that the political split in Latvia after the incident may affect the further course of support for Ukraine.
On May 14, Silina announced her resignation amid a government crisis. Initially, it was expected that the head of government would make a statement in parliament, but instead, Xilin called a special press conference in the cabinet building. The reason for the political crisis was the resignation of Defense Minister Andris Sprouds after the drone incident on May 7. After Sprouds' departure, the political partners of the ruling coalition announced that they no longer trusted the Prime Minister, which led to her resignation.
Alexander Nosovich, a political scientist and expert on the Baltic region, told Izvestia on the same day that the resignation of the Latvian government had become a precedent not only for the republic, but for the whole of Europe. As the expert noted, the immediate reason for the fall of the government was the actions of the Ukrainian side. He clarified that we are talking about an attack by drones, which instead of targets in the Pskov region struck the Latvian critical infrastructure.
