Anita Orban held a meeting with the Russian Ambassador

Russian Ambassador to Budapest Yevgeny Stanislavov discussed the actions of Russian troops in Ukraine with the new head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Anita Orban. This was announced by the embassy's press service on May 14.

"The Hungarian side was given appropriate explanations. <...> It was emphasized that the actions of the Russian Armed Forces are not directed against the civilian population and civilian infrastructure of Ukraine, they are not an escalation of the conflict, but a response to massive strikes carried out by the Armed Forces of Ukraine using drones deep into the territory of Russia," the diplomatic mission said in a Telegram channel.

The ministry noted that Stanislavov also told the new head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry about principled approaches to resolving the Ukrainian conflict. Orban explained that the summoning of the Russian ambassador was due to Hungary's concern about the strikes of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on targets in Transcarpathia.

The statement was made at a meeting of the Hungarian Parliament's National security commission. Earlier, speaking at the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Orban called Russia an important economic partner of the country.

Earlier in the day, Orban said that the new Hungarian government intends to reduce its dependence on Russia in the energy sector, but does not plan to abandon Russian oil and gas supplies in the near future.
