Bloomberg announced the loss of the United States to China in Latin America
The administration of US President Donald Trump has failed to weaken China's position in Latin America, despite the pressure on the countries of the region. This was reported by Bloomberg on May 14.
"Trump's pressure campaign has not destroyed the partnerships that most Latin American leaders have built with Beijing. Trade flows between China and the region, especially South America, remain stronger than ever, and business transactions are steady, even if public statements of sympathy have become more restrained," the publication says.
According to the agency, China's trade relations with the countries of the region continue to strengthen. Brazil's exports to China increased by more than 25% in the first four months of 2026 to reach $35.6 billion, while shipments to the United States decreased by almost 17%. Argentine exports to China increased by 86%.
It is noted that China continues to actively invest in Latin America, including through the supply of cheap electric vehicles and financing startups. The publication emphasizes that Washington's ideological proximity to the countries of the region is not enough to compete with Beijing, but real economic incentives are needed.
Chinese President Xi Jinping said on May 14 that the ideas of the revival of the Chinese nation and the return of the greatness of the United States do not contradict each other. The statement was made at a banquet in honor of Trump's visit. The Chinese President noted that more than 1.4 billion Chinese citizens are involved in the modernization of the country and the implementation of the new five-year development plan, while the American people continue the path of innovation, entrepreneurship and patriotism.
