There have been 231 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 231 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 26 people were killed and 269 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on May 14 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
10 accidents involving buses were recorded, as a result of which 11 road users, including two children, required medical assistance. Four bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 61 accidents involving pedestrians, 23 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 38 outside their area of operation, three people were killed, and 62 more pedestrians were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 20 child pedestrians, nine of whom were injured when crossing the roadway outside the designated areas.
In addition, over the past day, 50 accidents involving minors were registered on the roads of Russia, as a result of which 56 young road users were injured, including 19 child passengers and six motor transport drivers. There are no dead children.
So, in the Irkutsk region, in the afternoon, on the 38th km of the Irkutsk - Osa – Ust–Uda highway, a 25-year-old car driver, who, along with three children, was on her way to visit her grandmother, lost control while driving, after which the car left the roadway. The woman was not wearing a seat belt and subsequently refused to undergo a medical examination. As a result of the car accident, the driver herself was injured, as well as her minor passengers: boys aged 8 and 6 and a two-year-old girl who was in the back passenger seat without a child restraint and not wearing a seat belt. All the injured were hospitalized in a medical facility.
The State Traffic Inspectorate recalled that neglect of basic safety requirements when transporting children often leads to serious consequences even when the car leaves the road without colliding with other vehicles. The use of seat belts and child restraints is mandatory for every trip, regardless of its duration.
"The State Traffic Inspectorate urges drivers to be extremely careful near pedestrian crossings, educational institutions, courtyards and places of mass residence of citizens. Special care should be taken when passing intersections and performing maneuvers related to turning or changing lanes," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Earlier that day, it was reported that the State Duma at the plenary session adopted in the third reading a bill on optimizing the activities of traffic police officers, which consists in reducing the number of procedural documents they draw up when registering drunk drivers.
