- France named the reason for Macron's slap in the face from his wife Brigitte in Vietnam
The incident on board French President Emmanuel Macron's plane, when he was slapped in the face by his wife Brigitte before stepping onto the ramp last year, was caused by the politician's correspondence with French-Iranian actress Golshifteh Farakhani. This was announced on May 13 by French journalist Florian Tardif.
A media representative claims that Macron allegedly maintained a "platonic relationship" with Farakhani for several months.
"What happened: she (Brigitte. — ed.) saw a message [on her husband's phone] from a famous figure, the Iranian actress Golshifteh Farakhani," Tardif told RTL Radio.
According to the journalist, the French president sent messages to the actress, the content of which sometimes "went quite far." And once he even wrote that he really liked her. Tardif added that the presidential couple is very sorry about the quarrel that took place, which was seen by the public.
"This, as they say, is being regretted today at the Elysee Palace. <...> Yes, it was a family scene, a scene between spouses," Tardif added.
BMF TV reported on May 26 last year that Brigitte Macron slapped her husband during a visit to Vietnam. Later, the French president explained that it was a joke. French lawyer Francois Danglean, in turn, noted that the situation between the spouses ridicules the country.
On April 2, US President Donald Trump joked that Macron's wife was treating the French leader "extremely badly." He ironically noted that the French president is "still recovering from a blow to the jaw." Macron himself left this statement without comment, calling Trump's words unworthy.
In turn, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, noted on April 13 that Macron's public showdown with his wife was becoming a reason for caricatures. Zakharova added that, as a diplomat, she is more interested in the statements and actions of the French authorities regarding Russia.
