France allowed Rubio's visit to China to bypass sanctions

The Chinese authorities intend to allow the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, despite the Chinese sanctions previously imposed on him. This was reported on May 12 by the RFI radio station, citing sources.

"Secretary of State Marco Rubio was scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump in Beijing on Wednesday, despite the fact that he was under sanctions from China," the publication says.

Liu Pengyu, an official representative of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, said that the sanctions related to Rubio's statements and actions precisely in the status of a US senator. According to RFI, the Chinese side is considering using a different spelling of the American diplomat's last name using other hieroglyphs. According to the radio station's sources, this will make it possible not to formally extend the current sanctions to Rubio's current status as head of the US State Department.

As the newspaper reminds, restrictions against Rubio were introduced during his time as a senator after criticizing Beijing on human rights issues.
