Since the beginning of the season in Russia, more than 43 thousand applications have been registered to medical organizations on the topic of tick bites. This was reported on the website of Rospotrebnadzor on May 12.
"In the Russian Federation, more than 2.2 million people were vaccinated against tick-borne viral encephalitis (CVE) in 2026. In total, more than 43 thousand appeals have been registered since the beginning of the season," the message says.
According to the agency, the largest number of bites was recorded in the Chelyabinsk, Tver, Omsk, Irkutsk, Moscow, Leningrad, Kostroma, Samara regions, Altai and Krasnodar Territories, the Altai Republic and St. Petersburg.
In addition, acaricide treatments have covered more than 46 thousand hectares.
Representatives of Rospotrebnadzor reported on May 7 that ticks that live in Russia are capable, in addition to encephalitis, of carrying viruses such as Badges nayrovarus, Mukava and Nuomin, also known as Lesnoe.
Representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) gave advice on protection against ticks on May 4. So, they called for wearing light-colored clothes and trying not to walk in the tall grass. When walking in nature, experts urged to stay on open trails.
